Mark Ameerali grew up in the Fraser Valley. He attended private schools in Surrey, BC, for both elementary and high school. He was always interested in learning how the money world worked. By his 20’s, he knew he wanted to specialize in learning how to make money work for him, instead of the other way around. Upon entering university, he began his formal financial education in 2002, with the Canadian Securities Course. He attended UBC’s Sauder School of Business, graduating with a specialization in finance.
While at UBC, he gained experience in retail banking, and wealth management through internships at HSBC and RBCDS. Upon graduation, Mark began his career in commercial banking, and progressed to pension fund management after a short time, which marked the beginning of his postgraduate education.
Mark left his position with a Vancouver investment counsel, and his home, to study for the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst program (CFA), in South Korea. He received his CFA Charter in 2015. To help finance his various adventures, Mark designed a course in personal finance and investments. In each city he lived, he offered his course, and the course has been condensed into the book Common Cents.
Upon his return to Canada in 2011, Mark spent time looking for ways to align his work life with his goal of both achieving his financial freedom, and helping others to achieve theirs. This led him to start the real estate consulting company Maplequity.
In addition to founding Maplequity, Mark worked with a Canadian real estate education company, creating investment opportunities for U.S. cross-border investment.
Currently, Mark is working with one of Canada’s leading Exempt Market Dealers (EMDs), helping Canadians access direct investments in private companies. He has received numerous commendations for his work in private investments and teaching endeavors.
Mark married his beautiful wife Jacqueline in 2011. Mark and Jacqueline have three wonderful children: Michael was born in 2013, Benjamin was born in 2015, and Ashleigh was born in 2017. They live in Kelowna, BC.
Mark is dedicated to increasing the financial literacy awareness in the hope that people can give more of themselves to others in the ways they desire.
